One of Atlanta’s most historic shopping destinations has been sold. The City of Atlanta announced the acquisition of the Mall West End Tuesday.

The mall, located in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood, opened in 1972. It has remained a long-standing cultural staple in the community. According to a press release from the City of Atlanta, the sale was made possible through a partnership between Atlanta Urban Development and Atlanta Beltline, Inc. Plans for the 12-acre site include a mixed-income, mixed-use affordable housing development, student-targeted housing, a 150-key hotel, 12,000 square feet of medical office space, a fitness center and more. The roughly $450 million redevelopment project will be led by the Prusik Group and BRP Companies.
