ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Thousands in metro Atlanta spent much of Monday with no electricity after Sunday night’s storms took down trees and power lines. And we’re expecting more storms Monday afternoon and evening.
“We just came from the store getting ice,” Marquise Johnson-Hill said Tuesday.
“I am a food vendor,” she said. “I’m a small business owner, so my biggest concern this morning was my food and my inventory going bad.”
Trees and limbs are down all across metro Atlanta, particularly in DeKalb County. One of the hardest hit areas was in the Ellenwood area of south DeKalb. A tree fell across the road and took down power lines at the intersection of Moore Road and West Side Place. Early morning drivers had to turn around and find another route.
A tree fell onto a house on Chavers Place not far from N. Indian Creek Drive and Memorial Drive. No one was injured.
Power company crews were busy all night and into the morning trying to restore power. At one point, Georgia Power reported about 10,000 customers in DeKalb County alone had no electricity. By 12:30 p.m. Monday, roughly 2,600 outages remained.
