ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Hurricane Milton has downgraded in strength again and is now a Category 3 storm Wednesday. It had quickly strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane on Monday and had been downgraded to a Category 4 storm. Atlanta News First’s team of meteorologists is keeping an eye on the locations and expectations of this major hurricane.

What kind of hurricane is Hurricane Milton?
Hurricane Milton is a Category 3 hurricane as of 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Milton is projected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast Wednesday night.
Am I located in an evacuation zone?
Evacuations order for Florida counties can be found here. If you live in an evacuation zone, flood-prone area or mobile home and local officials issue an evacuation order, plan to leave your home. No counties in Georgia are under an evacuation order.
What areas are under a hurricane warning?
A hurricane warning was issued for parts of Mexico’s Yucatan state, and much of Florida’s west coast was under hurricane and storm surge watches as of Monday morning. Florida’s Lake Okeechobee, which often floods during intense storms, was also under a hurricane watch.
What is the projected path of Hurricane Milton?
Milton is expected to move across the central and southern regions of Florida. Cities such as Tampa, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Daytona will be in the path of the hurricane. Milton is expected to make landfall near Sarasota Wednesday night, and it could remain a hurricane as it moves across central Florida toward the Atlantic Ocean. That would largely spare other states ravaged by Helene, which killed at least 230 people on its path from Florida to the Appalachian Mountains.
How much storm surge could Florida see?
Forecasters warned of a possible 10- to 15-foot storm surge along Sarasota and 8- to 12-foot storm surge is expected for the Tampa Bay area. Flash and river flooding could result from 5 to 10 inches of rain in mainland Florida and the Keys, with as much as 15 inches in places.
What emergency resources are available currently?
According to FEMA’s website, they are prepared to respond to state’s requests for resources. Hundreds of FEMA staff were already on the ground in Florida supporting Helene recovery and are coordinating with people to prepare for the next storm.
Is Disney closing for Hurricane Milton?
As of Wednesday, 2 p.m., Disney World Resort started closing theme parks in phases. Theme parks, along with Disney Springs, will remain closed on Thursday. Continuous updates can be found on their page as they monitor the projected storm.
Will Georgia be impacted by Hurricane Milton?
Milton is not projected to have direct impacts on North Georgia.
