ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A bad crash had a portion of Interstate 20 East shut down for hours overnight in Atlanta.
It happened just after 3 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 before H.E Holmes Drive (exit 52), shutting down the ramp to I-20 East from I-285. At least two cars were involved and one overturned and caught fire.
Multiple injuries were reported. Officials say the victims were all taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but their conditions are not currently known.
A man driving by stopped to help the victims. He said he could hear them crying out for help as one of the vehicles was on fire.
“They were saying help me, help me, help me, help me. The state trooper asked us to help get the fire extinguished, so we got the fire extinguished. I just kept pulling until I got them out,” said the man who did not want to be identified.
All eastbound lanes reopened to traffic shortly after 6 a.m.
