ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Amid much controversy, the Georgia State Election Board met on Tuesday. It was the board’s final scheduled meeting ahead of the Nov. 5 general election.
The board heard a presentation from member Mike Coan after they ordered an investigation into eight election offices in Georgia.
The board voted to subpoena paperwork and members of the election transparency team with the Fulton County election board.
Member Janelle King detailed four complaints brought against the board, including the counting of votes, missing ballot images, improper hiring, and documentation of scanners during early voting.
“There is something to having a county that refused to respond for us and refusing to do the things they’re supposed to do,” said King.
Member Janice Johnston told reporters that the investigation by the state attorney general’s office that closed the case was just a partial investigation, and the board wants to reopen the case.
The state board also wants to add additional members to the county election monitoring team, despite doubts that these members are impartial and represent Republican groups.
“The best people to have on a monitor team are people who pay attention to detail and know about elections,” said Johnston.
The Fulton County election board filed a lawsuit after they refused to accept election monitors put forth by the state’s election board.
The board recently ruled that all ballots must be counted by hand on Election Day.
Board members said they just want to ensure the accuracy of the vote. But critics fear it will greatly delay results on election night and have accused the board of being aligned with the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump.
