ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Two Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, a detainee they were transporting and the driver of another car were injured in multi-vehicle crash Thursday, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
Around 5:13 pm, troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Forest Parkway at Southridge Parkway, just south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, GSP spokesperson Capt. Michael Burns said.
According to Burns, the incident began when a 2021 Dodge Charger – a Clayton County Sheriff’s Office vehicle with two deputies and a detainee inside – stopped behind a 2020 Chevrolet Trax at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Forest Parkway at Southridge Parkway.
Burns said that’s when a 2014 Lincoln MKZ traveling east on Forest Parkway approached the stopped vehicles from behind. The Lincoln reportedly failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Clayton County Dodge Charger, which caused the Charger to hit the rear of the Chevrolet.
Burns said the two deputies and the detainee in the Charger and the driver of the Lincoln were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries. Officials haven’t released the extent of their injuries.
The driver of the Lincoln was also suspected to be under the influence, Burns said.
Any possible charges in the incident will come from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, according to Burns.
