ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed two men in a driveway overnight in northwest Atlanta.
The Atlanta Police Department says it happened a little before 11:30 p.m. Sunday night at a home on the 3800 block of Old Gordon Road. They say the suspect drove up, got out of the car and fired shots before driving off.
Police say two Hispanic men in their 20s were struck by the gunfire and died from their injuries in the driveway. The Fulton County Medical Examiner has identified the victims as 21-year-old Junior Vasquez-Mendez and 21-year-old Jose A. Ozuna.
“At this time, it appears that there was an ongoing conflict between them and another person who police have not identified as of yet,” said Andrew Smith, Atlanta homicide commander.
Investigators say they are “possibly searching for a white car.”
On Monday morning, Atlanta News First spoke exclusively with Ozuna’s father about the incident. A relative on scene interpreted what he said.
“I just want to let you know my son was a very nice man. I just want to know why would you do such a thing to kill him, right in front of his house...in the parking lot,” Ozuna’s father said. “I want to let the police department know to please do your job. Do not let this case go like nothing,” he said.
Detectives believe the suspect could be a man.
“We do believe it’s an adult male. We’re still trying to determine who he is. The relationship...the extent of the conflict between the groups,” Smith said.
“There’s a connection to Mableton with a suspect that we’re trying to go through video footage to substantiate that,” Smith said.
Ozuna’s father is sending a message to the community and the suspect as that person remains on the run.
“With the suspect, I just want everybody to let me know when they will arrest him so I can see him face to face and that’s all that I want to happen. I just want to see who it was and why,” Ozuna’s father said.
No arrests have been made at this time.
