ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - One person is dead and another was hurt after a shooting Monday at a small, neighborhood grocery store off Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta, police said.
Officers were called to 875 Metropolitan Parkway, the address for Family Grocery Store LLC, shortly after noon in response to a person shot, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said they found a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds. They said the 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police said the findings of their preliminary investigation suggest the two had gotten into an argument, which “resulted in gunfire being exchanged between them.”
The deceased victim has not yet been identified.
Atlanta Police officials also took the time to remind people that violence is not the answer to conflict.
“It is a part of the mayor’s mission to reduce violence in the city,” Lt. Andrew Smith, Atlanta Police homicide commander, said. “It is unfortunate especially every time it seems to be our younger folks that are getting into these altercations, so we have to come up with some way as a community to address this.”
