Kirk Herbstreit has been a busy man this football season as he fulfills his NFL and NCAA duties, on top of being a dad. Those obligations have led to incredible travel throughout the fall.
Herbstreit is seen calling Thursday Night Football alongside Al Michaels weekly before gearing up for College GameDay on Saturday mornings.
In between, he makes a pit stop to watch his son’s Friday night high school football matchups.
This weekend might represent his most rigorous travel of the year! With TNF being hosted in Atlanta and College GameDay making its first ever trip to Cal-Berkeley, he’ll head from coast to coast in a four-day span.
And expected to be by his side is his golden retriever, Ben, who’s made every previous stop along the way.
Let’s break it down:
Wednesday: Home to Atlanta for TNF
370 miles
Thursday night: Atlanta to Louisville for his son’s game
321 miles
Friday night: Louisville to Berkeley for College GameDay
1,973 miles
Saturday afternoon: Berkeley to Fayetteville for Arkansas vs. Tennessee
1,551 miles
Saturday night: Back home
568 miles
That’s a grand total of 4,783 miles!
*Technically* this won’t be his furthest travel of the year as he made a trip to Dublin, Ireland for a Week 0 matchup between Florida State and Georgia Tech, but that trek involved just two direct flights.
This weekend, he’ll take five flights in four days!
That isn’t always the case. While he typically makes the three usual stops of Thursday Night Football, College Gameday, and his son’s high school action, he’s not always required to leave his Saturday location to call a game.
This weekend, however, his ABC assignment isn’t Cal vs. Miami. Instead, it’s Tennessee vs. Arkansas, meaning he’ll have to add in a quick trip from the West Coast to SEC Country before returning home.
