The Georgia Bulldogs are on the verge of the program's first SEC clash against the Texas Longhorns. Yet, the Bulldogs and one of the team's rivals made an historic announcement about a 2025 game.

Georgia and Georgia Tech announced a significant change to the Peach State's rivalry matchup next season. The contest has been moved to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for 2025.

The 2025 matchup was initially slated to be held at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the Georgia Tech campus, but will now shift less than two miles to the home of the Atlanta Falcons. The 2024 game will still be played in Athens as scheduled.

"Georgia Tech athletic director J Batt informed Tech fans Tuesday that the 2025 game against Georgia will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chad Bishop wrote on Tuesday.

"The matchup will mark the first time Tech and UGA will play each other in the modern era somewhere other than Bobby Dodd Stadium on Tech’s campus and Sanford Stadium in Athens. The annual game, known as Clean Old-Fashioned Hate, has alternated between Bobby Dodd and Sanford for nearly a century, save for the 2020 season because of COVID-19 and a brief hiatus before 1925."

This could end up being good news for Georgia with plenty of Bulldogs fans located in the greater Atlanta area. Bobby Dodd Stadium's capacity is just over 51,000 while Mercedes-Benz Stadium can hold up to 75,000.

That means far more Dawgs fans may now be able to attend the 2025 rivalry game.
