ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Crews are scheduled to begin work on a project to enhance Stone Mountain’s Main Street on Monday, July 22, according to city officials.

The project will include milling, repaving and striping “to improve road safety and maintain infrastructure integrity throughout the area,” Stone Mountain officials said in a press release Tuesday.

The first phase of the paving project will encompass Main Street from James B. Rivers Memorial Drive to East/West Mountain Street.

“During this phase, this section will be completely closed, with clearly marked detour routes to facilitate smooth traffic flow,” officials said.

For the second phase of the project, crews will work to enhance Main Street from East/West Mountain Street to Poole Street. Like the first phase, detour signage will be prominently displayed to guide drivers around the construction zone.

City officials said each phase is expected to last around two to three weeks, “subject to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.”

“We understand the potential inconvenience that roadwork may cause and appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this critical infrastructure improvement,” Stone Mountain City Manager Darnetta Tyus said in a statement.

Officials said residents and businesses are encouraged to address any questions or concerns about the project to Maggie Dimov, Stone Mountain’s director of economic development and the Downtown Development Authority, at (470) 925-3286 or mdimov@stonemountaincity.org.

Officials also said to visit the City of Stone Mountain’s website at www.stonemountaincity.org for more updates and information.
