ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A woman was found dead in southwest Atlanta Thursday afternoon, police said.
Around 11:30 a.m., officers were called to 2179 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW, where they found the woman in her 50s unconscious and not breathing behind a small house. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The circumstances of her death, as well as her identity, are currently unknown. Police did say they believe her death happened overnight before she was found on Thursday.
Police said the woman was found with an unnatural “defect” to her chest. Police said they believe the woman was either stabbed or shot but have not clarified which.
“It appears that a citizen who was walking down (the street) noticed the blood on the sidewalk, and called 911,” said APD Commander Andrew Smith. “Right now, we’re unsure if this was a targeted incident with whoever she encountered. So it’s too early for us to tell at this point.”
Police have not publicly identified any suspects.
