Georgia Tech will be closed on Thursday, July 4, to celebrate Independence Day. Additionally, while the campus is open Friday, July 5, classes will not meet.
For those in town, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday and long weekend around Atlanta.
July 1 – 7
Named among Reader’s Digest’s list of America’s Most Spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks, Stone Mountain Park will host shows through Sunday, July 7. Each night, the park’s Music Across America Drone and Light Show, featuring immersive lighting, flames, lasers, and 250 color-changing drones, will be followed by a patriotic fireworks display.
July 2 – 4
Truist Park
Celebrate the holiday with America’s pastime as the Braves host the San Francisco Giants at Truist Park. First pitch in Thursday’s game is 7:20 p.m. Along with postgame fireworks, fans can enjoy the CMT Hot Prospects Concert Series at the Georgia Power Pavilion Stage in the Battery for a Fourth of July-inspired performance.
The Braves' homestand continues with a series against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies from July 5 to 7.
Wednesday, July 3, 7 – 10 p.m.

Coinciding with the city of Kennesaw’s Salute to America, this 21+ event includes admission to the Smithsonian-affiliated museum along with specialty food, drinks, and live music.

The world’s largest 10K is back for its 55th running as 50,000 participants will make their way from Lenox Square to Piedmont Park. Viewers lining the course can stop by one of six stations handing out items to help cheer on runners, including hand clappers, thunder sticks, and bells. Billed as the “Party of the Summer,” the number of live entertainment stations throughout the route has been doubled for 2024.
From the Savannah shores to the Kettle Creek battlefield, sites across the state provide historical insight into Georgia’s role in the Revolutionary War.
