Historic Hurricane Milton
Hurricane Milton was a Category 5 storm with 165 mph winds Monday evening. It is tied for 6th strongest (winds) and is the fifth most intense (central pressure) storm on record in the Atlantic Basin. The storm poses a major threat to Florida Wednesday into Thursday. It will likely cross Central Florida overnight, and landfall near Tampa is most likely. It may still be a major hurricane (Cat 3) when it makes landfall. Hurricane force wind gusts are possible throughout Central Florida. The storm may also bring 10-15 inches of rain. The biggest, life-threatening, threat from Milton is a potential 10-15 foot storm surge along the west coast of Florida when it roars ashore. Areas that were decimated by Helene a couple of weeks ago may get an even harder hit from Milton. The storm will have no impact in north Georgia.
