ATLANTA — The day has arrived for a special celebration in honor of Jimmy Carter soon turning 100 years old.
The “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” concert is happening on Tuesday night at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
President Carter's birthday is on Oct. 1, and the concert tonight will feature artists offering a wide range of styles such as The B-52s, India.Arie, Eric Church, Maren Morris and more (full list below). There will also be appearances by Dale Murphy, Killer Mike, Renée Zellweger and Sean Penn.
Carter is famous for his love of music, and the event listing highlights something he once said that speaks to why a concert was organized to honor him as he approaches turning 100: "Music is the best proof that people have one thing in common no matter where they live, no matter what language they speak."
“Whether it was on his record player, on the campaign trail, or on the White House lawn, music has been – and continues to be – a source of joy, comfort, and inspiration for my grandfather,” said Jason Carter, President Carter’s grandson and chair of the Carter Center Board of Trustees. “I can think of no better way to celebrate him and his 100th birthday than a night of music.”
