The birthday festivities for the Georgia native and longest-living former president, Jimmy Carter, started early. The Carter Center and Delta Air Lines presented, 'Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song' Tuesday at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.The event featured several performers including Angélique Kidjo, BeBe Winans, Carlene Carter, India Arie, The B-52s, Drive-By Truckers, Eric Church, Maren Morris, The War And Treaty and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. There were also several guest appearances from others, including Sean Penn, Renée Zellweger, Barack Obama, Andrew Young, Ron Reagan and Bill Clinton. The former president was absent from his birthday bash. The humanitarian has been in hospice now since February 2023. Carter hasn't been seen publicly since the death of his wife in November 2023. The Carter family was present. Jimmy Carter's grandson, Jason Carter, said his grandfather is doing well and is still in hospice, but will watch the performances from home. Jason Carter emphasized why a concert was the best celebration for his grandfather: "He loved music, and he loved all kinds of music. I mean, he would even celebrate music from all over the world, of course, right? He traveled to over 100 countries and in every single place.
