DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An Atlanta man is sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of shooting and killing a man outside a rooming house.

On June 13, jurors found Sincere Rush, 22, guilty on four charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm, stemming from the death of 51-year-old Marcus Bradford.

DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Tangela Barrie sentenced Rush to life in prison with five years suspended.

In November of 2022, DeKalb County Police officers responded to a report of a person shot at a home in the 3300 block of Clifton Church Road, according to the investigation. When they arrived, they saw Bradford on the ground with a gunshot wound to his torso, they said. Rush was also at the scene.

Bradford’s girlfriend was one of the tenants of the home in which five of the rooms are rented out individually.

She reportedly told police that she and Bradford were sitting in a car in the carport eating pizza. That’s when she said that Rush went up to the car and confronted Bradford, saying “y’all know I sleep right here, right?” The investigation revealed that Bradford then got out of the car and told Rush that he and his girlfriend weren’t being loud, then Rush shot him.

Rush called 911 and said Bradford approached him “aggressively” and he defended himself by shooting Bradford. Surveillance video from the carport showed Rush went to the carport with a gun while Bradford was unarmed.
