TUCKER, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Several businesses in downtown Tucker were targeted by burglars Monday night.

Business owners found shattered windows and missing cash registers when they went in to work Tuesday morning.

“Two guys took our cash register and broke our front door,” said Alexander Santana, who works at Village Burger.

Multiple businesses on Main Street including Village Burger, Munster Cravings, Corner Cup and Las Colinas were burglarized, DeKalb County Police confirmed.

“They ended up taking $20, which is literally all we had in the register, but then she said down the block they ended up finding the $20 bill, so it’s like, ‘What did you even gain?’” said Bash, who works at Munster Cravings.

The break-ins occurred on a street several organizations have been investing in revitalizing.

“It used to be a four-lane road, but a grant came through and we were able to put in the sidewalks and the planters, and that made a huge difference for businesses,” said Matthew Lee, the executive director with the Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District.

Main Street has existed since the 1800′s but Tucker wasn’t officially a city until 2016.

“We’ve got a trail network the city is helping to fund. The alleys have been built out as places you can walk. Just behind us there’s going to be a park,” said Lee.

With all the improvement efforts in place, Lee says the break-ins feel especially senseless.

“It affects everybody, and it doesn’t reflect what’s going on in Tucker. And so it’s disturbing,” said Lee.

The Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District has invested money into putting more police on patrol on Main Street and in downtown Tucker.

Casandra Hughlett, floor manager at Munster Cravings, told Decaturish the suspects didn’t get much for their trouble.

“We don’t necessarily keep cash in our register,” Hughlett said.

Hughlett said she heard the suspects had been arrested — which Decaturish reported it also heard from the owner of Corner Cup — but police said Tuesday there had been no arrests.

“We have not yet made any arrests,” a spokesperson for the police department said. “The investigation is ongoing, so I do not have much I can release at this time. I will be following up over the next few days for updates and will send what I can as long as it doesn’t interfere with the investigation.”
