CHAMBLEE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A local artist who died suddenly at the age of 48 is being remembered with an art exhibit featuring his works.

His family says it was Aaron Simmons’s dream to show his work publicly, but he never got that chance — until now.

Art From the Other Side will celebrate and raise money for the Lawrenceville man’s family.

“His art process was an escape from the mundanity of everyday life. It was chaotic and, at the same time, very therapeutic for him,” said Stephanie Simmons, Aaron’s wife.

Aaron left behind his wife and two young children. Some proceeds from the art show, which is being organized by S.P.S. Productions, will go to Aaron’s family.

His family says Aaron’s biggest passion was oil painting. He posted his works of art to his Instagram page, creating a community with fellow artists and creatives.

“He enjoyed learning new techniques to talking about new ideas and collaborating with others,” said Stephanie.

Art From the Other Side will feature more than 20 artists showcasing their work, as well as two live painting performers. Organizers say proceeds from Aaron’s work will go directly to his wife, Stephanie, and their daughters, Skylar and Alexia.

The benefit art show is on July 14 from 1-5 p.m. at the Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee. You can learn more about the show and purchase advance tickets here.
