Attention Atlanta commuters: a section of Boulevard SE will be closed this weekend. The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) has announced that Boulevard SE, from Edgewood Avenue SE to Decatur Street SE, will be closed from 9:00 a.m. on Friday, until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. This closure is necessary for the removal of a tower crane at 40 Boulevard SE.
For those needing to navigate around the closed area, detour routes have been established. Northbound traffic on Boulevard SE on the south side of the railroad tracks will need to continue straight to Memorial Drive SE, then make a series of turns via Grant Street SE and Jackson Street SE to return to Boulevard SE. The officials have also noted that the west sidewalk of Boulevard SE will remain open to safely accommodate pedestrian traffic.
Similarly, southbound traffic on Boulevard will also need to follow a detour. Drivers should continue straight to Edgewood Ave SE, then turn right and follow the detour via Jackson Street SE, Decatur Street, Grant Street SE, and Memorial Drive SE, to loop back to Boulevard SE. These detour details serve to ensure that the flow of traffic remains as uninterrupted as possible during the crane removal works.
