ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will undergo more construction this weekend.
The projects are focused on the south parking deck’s pedestrian bridges. The bridges will be removed in three parts, the airport said.
“I’m gonna be honest with you, it’s probably going to be crazy. But when it’s done, it’s going to be real nice,” said Mohammed Azizuddin, who flies frequently.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, operations will close the South Terminal’s upper lanes and the Ground Transportation Center from 4 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.
On Monday, Oct. 21, roadway closures for the second bridge segment will begin at 8:30 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. the next morning.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the third segment of the bridge will undergo construction from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.
Additional work to complete the project will happen on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.
“A lot of people are going to have to make adjustments to their schedules to make it one their flights in a timely fashion,” said Byron Fields, who frequently flies out of Atlanta’s Airport.
“I’m going to make sure I change my travel time then because that’s going to suck,” said Azizuddin.
According to airport representatives, the project is a part of the ATLNext Program to make the airport more modern and efficient.
“The different construction has been great. I think it’s going to allow us a very efficient process to travel and commute,” said Fields.
The airport encourages passengers to allow for more time to travel and use alternate transportation methods. Taxis, hotel and local shuttles, and on-airport parking shuttles should follow the orange detour signs to temporary drop-off and pick-up locations.
