NFL owners awarded Super Bowl LXII to Atlanta at their Fall League Meeting on Tuesday.
The game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in February of 2028.
“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII," Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman Arthur Blank said. "Thank you to my fellow owners for their trust in awarding Atlanta this opportunity, and thank you to (NFL) Commissioner (Roger) Goodell, Peter O’Reilly and the entire league for their continued leadership in making the NFL the greatest sports league in the world.
"Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019. I look forward to working alongside our city and state officials as we continue to elevate Georgia as a premier, global sports destination.”
The Atlanta bid was led by the Atlanta Sports Council in collaboration with the Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Atlanta Convention andamp; Visitors Bureau, City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia.
Super Bowl LXII will be the fourth time the contest has taken place in Atlanta. The game was played twice at the Georgia Dome (Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994 and Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000) and once in Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Super Bowl LIII in 2019).
“We are so excited to welcome the Super Bowl back to Atlanta in 2028 for a fourth time," Atlanta Sports Council president Dan Corso said. "As we made clear throughout the process, no city is better positioned than Atlanta to host events of this magnitude. Super Bowl LXII would not be possible without the incredible cooperation of leaders in the civic and business community who continue to come together to deliver for our city and state.”
Super Bowl LXII joins an unprecedented string of global sporting events coming to the city over the next few years including the College Football Playoff National Championship and MLB All-Star Game in 2025, FIFA World Cup in 2026 and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2031.
“On behalf of football fans throughout Georgia and Atlanta’s thriving business community, I want to thank the NFL for awarding the Super Bowl to our capital city for the fourth time," Georgia governor Brian Kemp said. "Along with the incredible lineup of events we will welcome in the coming years, this decision underscores our position as an ideal host for large-scale attractions like this. Fans from across the world who attend Super Bowl LXII will experience the world-class lodging, amenities, and commitment to safety that set us apart. I want to congratulate and thank the entire bid team for their work to bring this premier event back to Georgia.”
