ALTO, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Two people were killed in a shooting that involved Forsyth County deputies that happened while they were serving a warrant in Banks County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

The shooting happened at a home on Cedar Drive in Alto late Tuesday morning.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant for a “sex offender for violating the conditions of his probation.”

The GBI said when deputies entered the home, “the shooting took place.”

“Two individuals were shot and pronounced deceased on the scene. None of the Forsyth County deputies were injured,” the GBI said in a press release.

On Wednesday, the GBI identified the two people who were fatally shot as Joshua Everett Emmett, 45, of Alto, and Meagan Victoria Feaster, 33, of Forsyth. Their bodies will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsies.

Neither the GBI nor the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office have not said how many deputies were involved in the incident.

The GBI said the Banks County Sheriff’s Office was not directly involved in the incident.

The incident will likely mark the 44th shooting involving a law enforcement officer the GBI has been asked to investigate this year, according to data from the agency.
