Rich Homie Quan's life was celebrated at an extravagant funeral service in his hometown.
Family, friends and fans of the late rapper gathered at the World Changers Church International in College Park, Ga. on Tuesday morning, September 17, to say goodbye for the last time. The church was filled with white flowers and incredible black-and-white photos of Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, from his childhood to his time as a platinum-selling recording artist. At the beginning of the service, Quan's five children appeared at the podium to deliver prayers before they reflected on their father's life in an emotional video.
Elsewhere in the service, rapper Killer Mike took the stage and paid homage to Quan. Mike said he didn't know Quan that well, but he explained that he judged him "from the tree he fell from." He thanked Quan's parents Corey and Tammy for producing a genuinely respectful soul. Afterward, the Atlanta City Council recognized September 17 as Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day. DC Young Fly also took the stage to honor the "Type of Way" rapper.
Rich Homie Quan passed away on September 5 at a hospital in Atlanta. According to a 911 call, the rapper's girlfriend Amber Williams said she found him unresponsive on the couch of their home. Quan wasn't breathing and foamed at the mouth when she turned him over. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was only 34 years old.
The funeral happened a day after Rich Homie Quan's first posthumous song dropped. On "Song Cry," the late rapper opens up about witnessing his friend's death and dealing with backstabbers.
