ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Lawrenceville man who claimed his estranged wife shot and killed herself is now convicted of her murder, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.

Glenroy Roberts, 53, was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional five years, the attorney’s office announced Friday.

On Aug. 2, 2022, police were called to Roberts’ apartment. Roberts told the 911 operator that his wife, 45-year-old Claudia Dionne Roberts, took the gun from his closet and it discharged when he tried to grab it away. But he later told police that he heard a shot from the room and found her dead in the closet, according to the district attorney’s office.

Crime scene investigators determined that Roberts could not have shot herself in the head. The two’s 10-year-old son, who was also in the apartment, said he heard at least four shots.

“This couple has sons who have to grow up without either of their parents at home,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said in a statement. “Domestic violence is a tragedy. We extend our condolences to each and every loved one and member of this family.”
