“I just feel like it’s so many people in our generation going, so it’s really taking a toll on our city. He carried our generation for a long time, so it does hurt,” said Tamekia Bray, a fan of the rapper who attended the service.
The rapper is credited with helping to pioneer Atlanta Trap Music, and fans like Bray say his lyrics changed their lives.
“A lot of people like millennials and Gen-Z got through hard times, especially coming from Atlanta. We’re the Black Mecca, so he is just relatable. You know, and him beating odds”, Bray added.
“I came out because he’s widely respected here in Atlanta as one of the music icons,” echoed Leon Montgomery, another Atlanta resident who attended the services to pay his respects.
Rich Homie Quan was also known for giving back to the community, and whether fans or family, those we spoke to say his loss will have a tremendous impact.
“Heartbroken, especially for my aunty and Corey (Quan's father),” added family member Tamika Gray.
As for fans, Green said holding back the emotions was hard.
“He set a remarkable example, awesome guy, trendsetter, gave back to the community, loved his family, loved the community, loved his kids, loved his fans. It just hurts, hurts to see a life taken so young so much talent so much more to do, it’s just sad,” Green added.
