COVINGTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Covington man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to molesting two children in 2021, according to Randy McGinley, district attorney for the Alcovy Judicial Circuit.

Ronnie Maxwell, 55, pleaded guilty to molesting a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old in 2021.

Prosecutors said he led police on a high-speed chase before running away; he was later arrested in Tennessee.

This was Maxwell’s second sexual offense. He pleaded guilty to molesting two 11-year-old children in 2003; he was sentenced to 30 years for those offenses and was required to register as a sex offender, according to McGinley.

Prosecutors said he pleaded guilty to rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, enticing a child for indecent purposes, criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy, two counts of child molestation, failure to register as a sex offender, felony fleeing a police officer, driving while license suspended, and reckless driving.

Maxwell also pleaded guilty to federal charges of failure to register as a sex offender, McGinley said.
