TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — A student and two adults in west Georgia were injured after the school bus they were on was involved in an accident.

Police say a truck ran through the intersection and crashed into the bus, causing it to flip onto its side.

LaGrange Police Chief Garrett Fiveash told Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco that a bus monitor, the driver of the truck that hit the bus and one student were injured so severely they were life-flighted to hospitals in Atlanta and Columbus.

Officers later confirmed that an additional seven students were taken to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries.

Troup County School System officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that one of their buses was involved in a crash on Mooty Bridge Road on Thursday afternoon.

School officials say a total of nine students were on board.

Chief Fiveash says the bus was carrying kids with special needs of different ages and from different schools.

“School administrators were here very quickly, did a great job with getting the kids controlled and calm, and they had them separated from the crash and sitting down on the curb,” said Fiveash.

Roadblocks were in place more than three hours while investigators mapped out the crash. Fiveash said Department of Motor Vehicles compliance inspectors had to gather evidence from the school bus. Then, a tow truck had to pull it off the roadway.

The chief said charges against the pickup truck driver are still pending while he’s in the hospital.

There’s no word on any of their conditions.
