Atlanta, known for its vibrant food scene, boasts a variety of iconic restaurants that have become staples in the city. As an Atlanta native, my taste for good, authentic food will always be rooted in the restaurants that I enjoyed while growing up. Let me take you on a culinary journey through the heart of Atlanta, where the flavors are as rich as the history. This city, my sweet peach, tells a story in every bite. So, grab your fork and let’s get into it.

American Deli

American Deli, with more than 200 locations across eight states, started as a small family-owned business in Atlanta, with the first location opening at South Dekalb Mall in 1989. It became one of Atlanta’s favorite spots for quick and tasty late-night eats. American Deli is home to hot wings with lemon pepper sprinkles, an Atlanta favorite. Get your wings with or without bones.

Breakfast at Barneys

Breakfast at Barney’s is a Black-owned breakfast and brunch restaurant that has become an Atlanta staple and a popular stop for visitors. The signature thick and fluffy 24-karat gold pancakes taste as good as they look. The line may be long, but it’s worth the wait.

Busy Bee Café

Amidst the shadows of segregation, Busy Bee Café shined as a beacon of hope. It’s where civil rights icons fueled their dreams with smothered fried pork chops and okra. Every plate carries the whispers of ancestors, making Busy Bee Café not just a restaurant, but a living archive of flavor and fortitude. The renowned Busy Bee Cafe in Atlanta was honored with the prestigious Bib Gourmand in the 2023 MICHELIN Guide. This accolade is a testament to the cafe’s commitment to offering good quality, value cooking.

J.R. Cricket’s

J.R. Crickets, founded in Atlanta, has been a haven for wing lovers since 1982. From its first location on Spring Street until today, it serves up finger-licking wings. That original J.R. Crickets has grown into 17 locations across Georgia, several of them in the metro area. This Atlanta gem is a must if you’re looking for a casual yet juicy wing experience. Yes, the wings are legendary, but this restaurant is about more than the food. It’s about the community.

Mary Mac’s Tea Room

Since 1945, Mary Mac’s has been serving Southern food at its best. You’ll think your grandmother cooked your meal. Before you leave, order cinnamon rolls to go. Thank us later.

Paschal’s

Since 1947, Paschal’s has been more than a restaurant. During the Civil Rights Movement, Paschal’s is where Black and white city leaders came together to discuss the issues of the day. The legendary restaurant also is home to some of the best fried chicken in Atlanta. Every forkful is a taste of history and progress.
