FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Metro Atlanta features countless family-friendly summer activities, from cultural celebrations to ice cream festivals. The following events represent only a fraction of the adventures the city offers.
Railroad Rendevous at the Southern Museum in Kennesaw
On Saturday, July 20, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, families can celebrate the history of transportation at the museum. All ages are welcome, and children two and under get in for free.
Fans can view displays presented by the Atlanta Radio Club featuring telegraph and ham radio demonstrations and the Atlanta Typewriter Club’s activity involving their train waybill activity. Attendees can also see presentations by the Cobb County Radio Control Modelers Club.
Of course, fans will also have the chance to board The General for this one day only. This event promises fun and learning for the entire family.
The museum is located at 2829 Cherokee St. NW in Kennesaw. Admission costs $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-17, and is free for children two and under.

14th Annual Atlanta Ice Cream Festival at Piedmont Park in Midtown
The ice cream festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, at Piedmont Park, located at 10th Street NE, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission to this event is free.
Attendees will be met with delicious sweet treats from various vendors, kid-friendly live music, and even physical exercise activities. More information can be found at atlantaicecreamfestival.com.
Wild World Weekend at Zoo Atlanta in East Atlanta
Guests can enjoy exciting wild encounters as they travel through a world of animals and cultures from around the world. Attendees can help celebrate Earth’s remarkable wildlife and habitats with family-friendly performances and activities from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, the Pacific, and more.
Wild World Weekend will take place from Saturday, July 27 – Sunday, July 28, at the zoo located at 800 Cherokee Ave. SE in East Atlanta. Tickets are free for general admission, Zoo Atlanta members, and children ages two and under; other tickets cost $25.95-$33.95 for guests ages 12 and over and $20.70-$26.95 for children ages 3-11.
