ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The rivalry game of the year is getting a new home — for at least one season.
Georgia Tech announced Tuesday that their game against the Georgia Bulldogs would be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in 2025.
The Yellow Jackets signed a contract with the Benz to play one game per season at the stadium through 2026.
“We know that some of you may be apprehensive that Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate will be played off-campus for the first time since Bobby Dodd Stadium opened in 1913,” J Batt, Georgia Tech’s athletic director, said in a letter to fans. “Please know that we understand that concern and know that this was not a decision that was made lightly.”
As part of the deal, AMB Sports and Entertainment will pay Tech a guaranteed $10 million for that one game, the school said.
The key for Tech is making sure their loyal fans get good seats.
Tech season ticket holders will get “seating priority opportunities that they haven’t had for our previous games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” the athletic director said.
Atlanta Falcons PSL holders will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets before the general public.
Renewals for Tech football season tickets will begin Oct. 16.
The school is working on renovations at the stadium with construction currently happening at the Fanning Center, a facility for student-athletes.
A full stadium renovation will also be underway soon and is set to be complete at the end of 2025. They said that will include “chairback seats throughout the stadium (replacing current bleacher seating), elevated premium spaces and videoboard and sound system upgrades to provide an enhanced gameday experience for the entire Georgia Tech community.”
The Georgia Tech-Georgia game will return to a renovated Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2027.
“We appreciate our partnership with Georgia Tech for bringing the state’s top collegiate rivalry to MBS and we are eagerly anticipating hosting this game to end the college football regular season next year,” said Doug Roberts, vice president of stadium events and premium sales.
