Netflix came to Atlanta to do its first-ever live streamed in-person Geeked Week event. Teasing reveals for new films, tv series, gaming content, and more, the Netflix event has become a must-see event every fall.
Hosting the event was actor Joe Manganiello, who while Emceeing the event, also had some casting news of his own to drop.
Live-Action Adapations
So let’s start off with some of the casting news to drop out of the Geeked Week 24 event. Both live-action adaptions of popular anime and animated series One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender had some news to drop during the live event. Firstly, host Joe Manganiello has been cast in season 2 of One Piece as Mr. O. The news had briefly leaked online the day before the live reveal but now it’s confirmed.
Rounding out the new casting announcement for One Piece is the role of Miss All-Sunday. Lera Abova will play her. This news comes off the recently announced remaining new cast for season 2 series newcomers Sendhil Ramamurthy, Katey Sagal, Charithra Chandran, and Camrus Johnson.
When Avatar: The Last Airbender finished airing its first season, fans were concerned how audiences who hadn’t seen the original animated cartoon would take the live-action adaptation. Luckily they had nothing to worry about as Netflix renewed the series for not one but two seasons. The reveal aligned with the original 3 seasons of the show, with season 2 diving into the Earth Kingdom, which was confirmed during the live event.
Ian Ousley (Sokka) and Dallas Liu (Zuko) played a game on stage to determine which would reveal one of the most talked about casting announcements of the series, who will play Toph. She is a beloved character for fans of the series and a critical piece to the story as we continue Aang’s journey. Ultimately Liu won the game and revealed that actress Miya Cech would play the character Toph. We also got treated to a quick clip of her signature move which you can see below. The reveal also served as the official announcement of season 2 filming has begun.
Animation
Netflix’s live-action section may be stacked going into the fall but so is their animated lineup. Geeked Week revealed an unexpected new announcement that Cyberpunk would be returning for another season. Given how events finished in the first season it seemed unlikely. However, there still felt like there was more to tell to the story and Netflix is bringing us back to Night City. No details were provided just yet on whether it will be a new story or a continuation of the previous one. But I am certainly looking forward to its return.
Arcane is finally back this fall with the final season. The final season will be split into 3 acts starting in early November to wrap up the story that at the end of season 1, was about to get explosive.
Wrapping up the animation category series announcements were also made for anime Sakamoto Days, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Devil May Cry and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Netflix andamp; Chills
Netflix introduced a new segment of content for their platform called Netflix and chills which will be dedicated to spooky and horror genre films and tv as they continue to expand their audience appeal. Kicking off this new segment of content are two films in the horror comedy and thriller genre: Don’t Move and It’s Whats Inside. The cast of both shows appeared at the live event to discuss more about their films and to drop exclusive sneak peeks at the films that will be dropping in October.
Gaming
Several titles were revealed at Geeked Week 24 in the gaming space. First is a game based on Zack Snyders recent Netflix film Rebel Moon. The game is titled Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game. The game is coming 2025. You can sign up for the closed beta today. The second game is Squid Game: Unleashed. Check out the full lineup of games coming to Netflix soon.
