Wednesday, Oct. 2:

Sturgill Simpson at Salt Shed Fairgrounds. Sold out.

Expect a marathon three-hour set full of jams, covers and ripping guitar solos from the country crooner.

Thursday, Oct. 3:

J.R.C.G., Marbled Eye, Mass at Empty Bottle. Tickets.

J.R.C.G. stands for Justin R Cruz Gallego, the experimental artist from the Pacific Northwestern who combines jazz, psych-rock and ambient sounds into a thrilling live show.

Friday, Oct. 4:

Yard Act, Omni at Metro Chicago. Tickets.

Two popular post-punk acts—one from the U.K. and the other from Atlanta, GA—bring knotty riffs and palpable energy to Wrigleyville.

Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5:

Grateful Shred at Outset. Tickets.

You read that right: this is not the original group but a Grateful Dead cover band full of excellent players.

Saturday, Oct. 5:

The Cactus Blossoms, Lou Hazel at Schubas. Tickets.

Shades of Everly Brothers harmonies, classic country and ‘70s Laurel Canyon folk at the small Lakeview club.

Marika Hackman, Art School Girlfriend, Oyeme at Sleeping Village. Tickets.

The album “Big Sigh” from the U.K. singer-songwriter is one of the most excellent full-lengths of 2024.

Verböten, Uniflora at Evanston SPACE. Tickets.

A local band composed of teenagers opens for another local band playing their first club show since they were teenagers 41 years ago.

Monday, Oct. 7:

Nilüfer Yanya, Angélica Garcia, Lutalo at Metro. Tickets.

The rising U.K. indie rock artist celebrates a new album. Get there early for Vermont’s Lutalo.

Tuesday, Oct. 8:

A. Savage, Greg Freeman at Empty Bottle. Tickets.

The Parquet Courts frontman is joined by an electric opening act who takes cues from Neil Young, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.

Kate Bollinger, Sharp Pins at Lincoln Hall. Tickets.

Fans of Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Jackson Browne will love Kate Bollinger’s full-length debut “Songs From A Thousand Frames Of Mind”
