Additionally, officials announced a Georgia Tech-UGA matchup at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2025.

ATLANTA, GA — Super Bowl 62 is returning to Atlanta, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium tweeted on Tuesday.

Stadium officials said the championship game will take place in February 2028.

The NFL made the official announcement Tuesday during the Fall League meeting. It will be the fourth time the Super Bowl has been hosted in Atlanta, the NFL said.

The news came on the same day the stadium announced the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets will take on the Georgia Bulldogs at the Mercedes-Benz in 2025.

"Some 'Clean Old-Fashioned Hate' is coming to MBS in 2025," stadium officials tweeted.

Before the Super Bowl heads to Atlanta, the nationally-watched game will hit three other main stages: the Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana; the Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8, 2026 in Santa Clara, California; and SoFi Stadium on Feb. 14, 2027 in Inglewood, California.

"Renowned for its hospitality and rich sports and entertainment culture, Atlanta is a world-class event destination and a natural fit for Super Bowl 62. Arthur Blank has been a transformative figure in the Atlanta community, playing a crucial role in leading the bid to bring the Super Bowl back to the city," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a news release.

"I have been fortunate to witness firsthand how Arthur continues to drive community engagement and economic development in the Atlanta community through his unwavering commitment to sports and philanthropy. We look forward to working with him, the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Sports Council and all of our partners on the ground to create an unforgettable experience for fans around the world in 2028."

The last time the Mercedes-Benz was home to a Super Bowl was in February 2019 when a New England Patriots-Los Angeles Rams bout ended with a Patriots victory, 13-3 overall score. The NFL said the game was the final Lombardi Trophy of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.

Super Bowl 28 (January 1994) and Super Bowl 34 (January 2000) were both played in the Georgia Dome, which was demolished in November 2017.

"This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII. Thank you to my fellow owners for their trust in awarding Atlanta this opportunity, and thank you to Commissioner Goodell, Peter O'Reilly and the entire league for their continued leadership in making the NFL the greatest sports league in the world," Falcons owner Arthur M. Blank said in the release.

"Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world's largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019. I look forward to working alongside our city and state officials as we continue to elevate Georgia as a premier, global sports destination."

According to the Atlanta Falcons, the city is planning a plethora of events such as the NFL Honors, Super Bowl Experience, Super Bowl Opening Night and an expansive community program.

Fans are being offered the chance to secure their access to the Big Game through On Location's Priority Access deposit program, the Falcons said. Hospitality packages include seating options, hospitality service, food and beverage offerings, entertainment and other experiences.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Super Bowl back to Atlanta in 2028 for a fourth time," said Dan Corso, president of the Atlanta Sports Council and Atlanta Super Bowl Bid Committee. "As we made clear throughout the process, no city is better positioned than Atlanta to host events of this magnitude. Super Bowl LXII would not be possible without the incredible cooperation of leaders in the civic and business community who continue to come together to deliver for our city and state."

Both the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United teams play at the Mercedes-Benz, which opened in August 2017.

In early February, Atlanta United FC announced the Mercedes-Benz will host eight matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Truist Park will host the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
