National Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated now through Oct. 15 with events happening around metro Atlanta.
The city of Roswell is sponsoring La Candela Flamenco, featuring world-class dancers and musicians on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Tickets are available here. To spice up your flamenco experience you can purchase a Paella tasting for an additional $8. Latin Grammy Award-winner Diego Garcia (Twangeuro) will perform on Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Roswell Riverside Sounds series at Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Road. Admission is free.
The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will host a Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta on Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at 3630 Shallowford Road NE in Doraville. This event is hosted in collaboration with Latin American Association and will offer diverse cuisines, entertainment, and fun activities for the whole family.
In support of the Latin American Association (LAA) purchase tickets for the Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Oct. 3 at 8:15 pm.. The Center of Puppetry Arts in partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico is hosting a puppetry adaptation of Duncan Tonatiuh’s award-winning children’s book, Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant’s Tale now through Oct. 20. A panel featuring Javier Díaz de León, Jessica Rosa Espinoza, Jason Hines and Duncan Tonatiuh will be held on Sept. 20 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets to be purchased for the panel here. A book signing will be after the Sept. 21 performances at no additional charge and ASL performances are on Oct. 5 at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Georgia Latino International Film Festival will be held at venues across Atlanta Sept 26-29. A full list of screenings can be seen here. “Attendees will be immersed in a world of captivating storytelling, featuring films and directors from all over the United States, Peru, Spain, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean,” according to a press release. The opening night gala includes a screening of the documentary Mimy andamp; Tony: The Creation of a Dream, followed by a live performance by the Grammy Award-winning duo. Ser Familia is a nonprofit in metro Atlanta that provides mental health support for Hispanic individuals in the area. Celebrity chef and nutritionist, Lala, with the help of local chefs will create signature dishes of Latin American cuisine as a benefit for Ser Familia. The Omni Hotel will host the benefit on Oct. 19 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $200 and can be purchased here.
